SeniorFit Success: St. Paul HermitageIn 2006, HTS started their SeniorFit Wellness Program at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, Indiana. Since that time, participation has increased exponentially and is now up to a room full of 50 more residents on any given day. The SeniorFit program is lead 3 times a week by a SeniorFit instructor and is designed to work on the Fitness Four components of physical wellness: Strength, Balance, Endurance and Flexibility. They also have incorporated competitive walking and other programs such as PiYo (pilates and yoga fusion), exercise balls, bands and cardio equipment. The residents have improved their grip strength by an average of 32% since they have started. They have decreased their fall risk by 65% and 95% report feeling better about their health. The residents at St. Paul Hermitage have taken great pride in their attendance and improving their health. The participants wear their SeniorFit T-shirts with great pride. "Everyone wants to be included in the program and wants to get that SeniorFit shirt to let everyone know they are a part of exercise program." says Angela Howard, HTS Director of Wellness. "Seeing the improvement in their level of activity and overall health has been an amazing thing to watch."
