HTS History

Healthcare Therapy Services, Inc. was formed in the response to a long term care market in need.  With a 1980’s ruling that all long term care providers had to provide rehabilitative services, many rural providers did not receive complete therapy services unless within close proximity of a local hospital rehabilitation department.  It was at this point that Barry Chatham, SLP, HFA and three other individuals formed HTS in 1987 after working together for Basic American Corporation (Turtle Creek Convalescent Homes) in the rehabilitation division, Rehabilitative Health Services.  The initial goal was to serve rural providers with affordable, quality enriched physical, occupational and speech therapy services.  HTS was formed with strong bonds, confidence, experience and industry knowledge.

HTS and its four partners grew successfully in Indiana and Kentucky and continued a steady pace of business for 11 years before starting a new division for permanent and temporary placement, Staffing Options and Solutions (SOS), which led to the division of ownership and the leaving of Healthcare Therapy Services, Inc. in the capable hands of Barry Chatham.

Barry Chatham, SLP, HFA, became the sole proprietor of Healthcare Therapy Services, Inc. in 1998.  With 17 years of prior industry experience, and additional decades as the President, Barry Chatham has continued HTS’ success as the leading independent rehabilitation provider in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio serving over 90 health care providers.  It was Barry’s vision to build a company rich in Christian values, steadfast to ethical practices, while always knowing that the cornerstone of success is recognizing the inherent value of every person.  With this in mind, Barry Chatham and his wife Judy chose Jeremiah 29:11 to be the foundation of our mission statement, “to provide hope and a future” to each person we serve.

Barry Chatham’s two sons, Steve Chatham & Brian Chatham have worked in the family business since the beginning, and continue to serve the expansion and growth of HTS in their vice presidential roles.
Barry, Steve and Brian Chatham continue to grow and expand their mission of providing “hope and a future” through multiple HTS Partner Companies.
